Gil Cygler

Gil joined his father's Dollar franchise rental / single location car rental business after graduating from NYU school of Business with an accounting degree and over the course of 28 years grew the business to an independent car rental ( AllCar) with a 2200 car fleet / 14 locations covering all five boroughs of New York and a staff of 100. Several locations operated with new car dealerships serving their repair customers.

Above the typical car rental business, the company served as a major provider to consumers in NY for insurance replacements, and included divisions which provided vehicles to the film and television industry of New York competing with the major industry players, and a division which supplied cars to various law enforcement and New York City Government agencies in New York.

In addition to running day to day operations, Gil was responsible for negotiating fleet deals purchasing over 500 cars annually as well as a successful vehicle disposition program which included selling and financing cars to retail customers, wholesalers and auctions. Gil also implemented a self insurance program allowing his company to avoid the annual uncertainty New York car rental companies faced. Allcar operated a New York State licensed inspection station employing 10 mechanics performing repairs from oil changes to engine replacements.

In 2010, Gill successfully advocated the NYS Legislature to enact a law giving consumers with car insurance claims the choice to rent a car where they choose -- and not necessarily where their insurance company suggests. Gil served on the executive committee of the American Car Rental Association which was dominated by representatives of the major companies and was the recipient of their 2012 Bruno Russell Award for Car Rental Executive of the Year in recognition of the law which he passed.

In 2013, Gil launched the largest independent car share company in the country, Carpingo, having realized the shifts in both the car rental and overall transportation industry.

In June 2015, both Allcar and Carpingo were acquired by Enterprise Rent A Car.

Since selling Allcar, Gil has worked with several car rental and transportation companies, assisting in their vehicle acquisition and disposal as well as implementing a self insurance program, helping manage their insurance risk as they navigate the cumbersome and expensive insurance and no fault laws of New York.
